Math Gets A Bad Rep (Sometimes, Rightfully So, But Still)

I came across the below post of mine from years ago. I feel like it illustrates the direction I would move in concerning my approaches to math, teaching it, and talking about it. I'll also leave a link to my Math and The World series at the end as that seems to be the culmination of some ideas in the post among other things. Here goes!
Math gets a bad rep. That being said. Even if people don't get into it like me, I hope people can at least begin to see the benefits, the power, maybe even fear it less.
Math is not just about numbers. It's about communication, relationships, logic and reason, patterns, systems, representation. Think about numbers. What are they? They are symbols, just like letters that express some idea, some concept. The rules we made for them are all based on logic.
Math can be beautiful. The way you solve a problem or write a proof, how you display those things, it's an art. More directly there is a lot of art involving math, have you ever seen fractal pics? How about the animations we see in movies, in games? The math is everywhere.
In any case, math is not just one thing. It does not have to be this dark beast lurking in the shadows. You need not fear it. It's just a different way of looking at things.Know this though, you are not to blame for your fears and dislike of it.
